Thesis Writing and Research: Why it is included in your curriculum.

Almost all of degree courses across all universities  and colleges in the Philippines include research and thesis writing in the curriculum.
Apart from being a mandate or a requirement which is prescribed by the Commission on Higher Education (CHEd), there are other numerous reasons why you have to do a research and/or write a thesis.

If you are reading this, then you might be one of the students who initially asked something like "Why do we need to write one of these?" (Bakit ba kasi kelangan natin sumulat ng ganito?)

Well, off the top of my head, here are the MAJOR logical reasons why. And to be honest, all of these are geared towards your own benefit as a professional. (This is one of the reasons why research and thesis writing is commonly scheduled to be done near the end of your curriculum.)

  1. Writing a thesis or conducting a research require you to make use of your all that you have learned, particularly in your major subjects. With this, you gain experience and knowledge on how to apply what you have learned in school. After all, knowledge if not applies is deemed useless.
  2. Most of the time, you get to have a thesis partner or you get to work in a group. This gives you an idea on how to work within an organization or with a partner at the very least. This is an actual insight of how it truly is when you get out of studying into your first job.
  3. You get to experience an entire decision making process by managers. If you are asked whether you want to have a supervisory or managerial position as a professional, probably your answer is "Yes". The experience of writing a thesis actually follows the same contextual process of making a managerial decision. So if you'd want to be a manager someday, take your thesis writing seriously so that you get an idea how it is to be a manager.
There you have it. I hope the above-mentioned reasons get to motivate you to write your thesis or research. I know there are a lot of other reasons, so feel free to comment them out.
